Panasapattu Curry

Ingredients

  1. 1 small raw jackfruit
  2. 1 tbsp oil
  3. 1 1/2 tbsp tamarind pulp
  4. 3 green chilies, chopped
  5. 1 tsp turmeric powder
  6. Salt to taste
  7. 1 tsp chana dal
  8. 1 tsp urad dal
  9. 1 tsp mustard seeds
  10. 2 whole dry red chilies
  11. 2 tsp coarsely ground peanuts
  12. A small bunch of curry leaves
  13. 4 cups water

Method

  1. **Preparing the jackfruit

    • Apply oil to your hands to avoid stickiness.
    • Peel the raw jackfruit and cut it into small cubes.
  2. **Cooking the jackfruit

    • Add turmeric powder to water and bring it to a boil.
    • Add the jackfruit pieces and cook for about 15 minutes until tender.
    • Drain and keep aside.
  3. **Preparing the seasoning

    • Heat oil in a pan.
    • Add chana dal, urad dal, mustard seeds, dry red chilies, green chilies, ground peanuts, and curry leaves.
    • Fry until the dals turn golden and the seeds splutter.
  4. **Making the curry

    • Add tamarind pulp and a little water to the seasoning.
    • Mix well and let it simmer briefly.
  5. **Final cooking

    • Add the boiled jackfruit pieces to the pan.
    • Mix gently and cook for a few minutes so the flavors combine well.
    • Adjust salt if needed.
  6. **Serving

    • Serve hot panasapattu curry with steaming rice.
