Matar Mushroom

Matar Mushroom is a rich and aromatic curry made with green peas and mushrooms simmered in a creamy, spiced gravy.

Ingredients

  1. Green peas (shelled) 1½ cups
  2. Mushrooms 200 g, cleaned and quartered
  3. Oil 2 tbsp
  4. Green cardamoms 4
  5. Cinnamon 1"
  6. Onions 2 large, finely chopped
  7. Ginger paste 1 tbsp
  8. Garlic paste 1 tbsp
  9. Tomato puree ½ cup
  10. Red chilli powder 1 tbsp
  11. Coriander powder 1 tbsp
  12. Turmeric powder 1 tsp
  13. Garam masala powder 1 tsp
  14. Salt to taste
  15. Cashewnut paste ½ cup

Instructions

  1. Preparing the Base

    • Clean, wash, and quarter the mushrooms.
    • Finely chop the onions.
    • Heat oil in a kadhai and add green cardamoms, cinnamon, and onions.
    • Sauté until the onions turn light golden.
  2. Cooking the Masala

    • Add ginger paste and garlic paste; sauté for half a minute.
    • Add tomato puree, red chilli powder, coriander powder, turmeric, garam masala, and salt.
    • Cook until the oil separates from the masala.
    • Add cashew paste dissolved in 1 cup water and mix well.
  3. Finishing the Curry

    • Add another cup of water and bring the gravy to a boil.
    • Add green peas and mushrooms, adjust seasoning, and mix.
    • Cook on low heat for 5 minutes.
    • Serve hot with naan or roti.
