Methi Thepla

A soft, flavorful Gujarati flatbread made with fresh methi leaves and mild spices.

Ingredients

  1. **Dry Ingredients

    • 1 cup wheat flour
    • 1 tsp red chilli powder
    • 1/2 tsp turmeric (haldi)
    • 1 tsp coriander powder
    • 1 tsp cumin seeds powder
    • Salt to taste
  2. **Fresh & Aromatics

    • 2 crushed green chillies
    • 1 tbsp ginger–garlic paste
    • 1 tsp ajwain
    • 1 pinch hing
    • 1/2 bunch methi leaves (chopped)
  3. **For Kneading & Cooking

    • Oil as needed

Instructions

  1. **Prepare the dough

    • Add wheat flour into a wide mixing bowl.
    • Mix in all ingredients including methi leaves, spices, ginger–garlic, green chillies, ajwain, and hing.
    • Add 1 tsp oil and knead into a smooth dough.
    • Rest the dough for 15 minutes.
  2. **Shape the theplas

    • Divide the dough into equal-sized small balls.
    • Roll each ball into a thin round thepla using a rolling pin.
  3. **Cook the theplas

    • Heat a griddle and place one rolled thepla on it.
    • Roast one side, then flip.
    • Spread 1/2 tsp oil on the cooked side and flip again.
    • Repeat oiling and cooking on the other side until evenly roasted.
    • Remove once golden spots appear and repeat for all dough balls.
    • Serve hot with butter, chutney, or curd.
