Grilled Cheese Sandwich with Bacon and Fried Egg
A hearty and indulgent sandwich, this classic comfort food layers crispy bacon, gooey melted cheese, and a perfectly fried egg between golden-buttered slices of bread. Simple yet satisfying, it’s ideal for breakfast, brunch, or a quick meal any time of the day.
Ingredients
- 2 slices bacon
- 1 egg
- 2 slices bread (any kind)
- Butter, as needed
- Cheddar cheese, sliced
Method
-
Cook the bacon:
- Heat a pan over medium heat and fry the bacon until crisp and golden brown.
- Transfer the cooked bacon onto paper towels to drain excess fat. Set aside.
-
Fry the egg:
- Wipe out the pan and add a little butter if needed.
- Crack in the egg and fry to your desired doneness.
- For a richer flavor, leave the yolk slightly runny.
-
Prepare the bread:
- Spread butter on one side of each bread slice.
- Keep the buttered sides facing outwards for toasting.
-
Assemble the sandwich:
- On the unbuttered side of one slice, place a layer of cheese, followed by the fried egg and crispy bacon.
- Top with another slice of cheese if desired, then cover with the second bread slice, buttered side out.
-
Grill the sandwich:
- Heat a flat griddle or frying pan over medium-high flame.
- Place the sandwich on the hot surface and cook until the underside is golden brown.
- Flip carefully and grill the other side until evenly browned and the cheese melts.
-
Serve hot:
- Remove from the pan and slice diagonally for a classic look.
- Serve immediately while the cheese is gooey and warm.
Notes:
- If making multiple sandwiches, slightly reduce the heat between batches to prevent the bread from browning before the cheese melts completely.
- You can add a slice of tomato or avocado for an extra layer of flavor.
