Daal Paratha
Daal Paratha is a wholesome and flavorful Indian flatbread stuffed with spiced moong dal filling — perfect for breakfast, lunch, or dinner.
Ingredients
For the Dough:
- 1 cup wheat flour
- 2 teaspoons oil
- Salt – to taste
- Water – as needed
For the Filling:
- 1/2 cup yellow moong dal
- 1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds
- A pinch of turmeric powder
- A pinch of asafoetida (hing)
- 1/2 teaspoon red chilli powder
- 2 teaspoons oil
- Salt – to taste
For Cooking:
- Oil – as needed
Method
Step 1: Prepare the Dough
- Sieve the wheat flour into a bowl.
- Add salt and oil, then knead into a soft dough using enough water.
- Cover and rest the dough for at least 20 minutes.
Step 2: Cook the Dal
- Soak moong dal for 1 hour. Drain the water.
- Cook the dal in 1 cup water until soft but not mushy.
Step 3: Prepare the Filling
- Heat oil in a pan. Add cumin seeds and asafoetida, let them splutter.
- Add cooked dal, salt, turmeric powder, and red chilli powder.
- Cook on medium flame until the mixture becomes dry.
- Let the stuffing cool completely.
Step 4: Assemble the Paratha
- Divide the dough into small balls. Roll one into a small puri.
- Place some dal stuffing in the center, gather edges, and seal.
- Gently roll again into a thick, round paratha.
Step 5: Cook the Paratha
- Heat a tawa (griddle) on medium flame.
- Place the stuffed paratha and cook both sides with a little oil until golden brown.
Serving Suggestion
- Serve hot with curry, pickle, or plain yogurt for a hearty meal.
- Best enjoyed straight from the tawa for maximum flavor.
