Plain Dosa

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Split Black Gram (Urad Dal)
  • 2 cups Rice Flour
  • Salt to taste
  • Water as required
  1. Preparation

    • Wash and soak urad dal in plenty of water for 3 hours.
  2. Preparing the Batter

    • Grind the soaked urad dal with water to a smooth, fluffy consistency.
    • Add rice flour and salt to the batter and mix well.
    • Add water if required to get a pouring consistency.
  3. Fermentation

    • Cover and allow the batter to ferment overnight or for 8–10 hours in a warm place.
  4. Making the Dosa

    • Heat a dosa tawa on medium flame.
    • Pour a ladle of batter and spread it thin in a circular motion.
    • Drizzle a little oil around the edges if required.
    • Cook until the dosa turns crisp and golden.
  5. Serving

    • Remove from the tawa and serve hot.
    • Serve with coconut chutney and sambar.
