Moong Dal with Palak
A nutritious and comforting dal made with spinach and moong dal, perfect for a wholesome meal.
Ingredients
- 1 cup split green gram lentil
- 3 cups chopped spinach
- A pinch of turmeric powder
- 1 tsp red chili powder
- 1 tsp asafoetida
- 2 tbsp butter
- 1 tsp chopped garlic
- 1 tsp chopped ginger
- A pinch of baking soda
- 1 tbsp fresh cream
Instructions

**Prepare the Dal
- Wash and soak the moong dal for 30 minutes.
- Pressure cook the dal with turmeric powder, red chili powder, salt, and enough water.
- Once cooked, keep it aside.
- If the dal seems thick or not dissolved, add water and cook again; mash lightly with a wooden spoon.

**Prepare the Spinach
- Boil water in a pan and add chopped spinach along with baking soda.
- Cook for 1 minute on high flame until just done.
- Drain, cool, blend into a smooth paste, and keep aside.

**Combine and Temper
- Add the spinach paste to the cooked dal and mix well; cook on low flame for 2 minutes and set aside.
- Heat butter in a pan, add garlic and fry until light brown.
- Add ginger and asafoetida; sauté briefly.
- Add this tempering to the dal, mix thoroughly, and finish with fresh cream before serving.
