The Turtle and the Two Swans
Once upon a time, in a quiet lake, lived a turtle named Kambugriva. She had two swans as her close friends. Every evening, the three would gather at the lakeside, share stories, and enjoy each other’s company before sunset.
One year, however, the rains failed, and the lake began to dry up. The swans grew worried and told their friend, “Dear Kambugriva, you cannot survive here much longer. The lake will soon run dry.”
The turtle agreed. “You are right. Please find another lake with enough water. Then bring me a strong stick. I will hold the stick firmly with my mouth, while both of you carry it from the ends and fly me to safety.”
The swans searched far and wide until they discovered a large, beautiful lake full of water. Returning with good news, they held a stick between them and reminded Kambugriva, “Friend, remember this—no matter what happens, you must keep your mouth shut. If you speak, you will fall.”
The journey began, and soon they were soaring high over towns and fields. People below were astonished to see two swans carrying a turtle through the sky. “What a rare and wonderful sight!” they exclaimed loudly.
Hearing the commotion, curiosity got the better of Kambugriva. Forgetting her friends’ warning, she opened her mouth to ask, “What are they all shouting about?”
The moment she spoke, she lost her grip and tumbled down. Sadly, she fell into the hands of the townspeople, who caught her and prepared to feast on her.
Moral of the Story:
Never fail to listen to the advice of your true friends.
