The King and the Foolish Monkey

Once upon a time, there was a king who kept a pet monkey. Though foolish by nature, the monkey was pampered and allowed to roam freely in the palace. He even had access to the king’s private chambers, which were off-limits to even the most trusted servants.

One afternoon, the king lay fast asleep while the monkey stood guard. Suddenly, a fly entered the room and settled on the king’s chest.

The monkey shooed it away, but the fly kept returning. Irritated, the foolish monkey grew restless. In his anger, he grabbed a sword to strike the fly.

Just then, the fly landed once more on the king’s chest. Without thinking, the monkey swung the sword with full force. The fly escaped unharmed, but the king was gravely injured.

Moral of the Story:

Beware of a foolish friend—for his actions may harm you more than an enemy ever could.
