Mango Pesarel
A tangy, spicy South Indian mango relish made with raw mango pieces and simple tempering.
Ingredients
- 2 raw mangoes
- 4 green chillies
- 4 tbsp gingelly oil (tel)
- 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
- 1 tsp red chilli powder
- 1/4 tsp asafoetida
- 1/2 tsp salt
Instructions

Prepare the mango and chillies
- Wash, wipe, and cut raw mangoes (with skin) into very tiny pieces.
- Wash and slit the green chillies; keep them aside.

Make the tempering
- Heat gingelly oil in a pan.
- Add mustard seeds and let them splutter.
- Add asafoetida, salt, and red chilli powder; stir well.

Cook the mixture
- Add the slit green chillies and chopped mango pieces.
- Toss everything together and cook for 2–3 minutes.

Finish and store
- Remove from heat and cool completely.
- Store refrigerated; stays good for 6–7 days.
