Mango Pesarel

A tangy, spicy South Indian mango relish made with raw mango pieces and simple tempering.

Ingredients

  1. 2 raw mangoes
  2. 4 green chillies
  3. 4 tbsp gingelly oil (tel)
  4. 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
  5. 1 tsp red chilli powder
  6. 1/4 tsp asafoetida
  7. 1/2 tsp salt

Instructions

  1. Prepare the mango and chillies

    • Wash, wipe, and cut raw mangoes (with skin) into very tiny pieces.
    • Wash and slit the green chillies; keep them aside.
  2. Make the tempering

    • Heat gingelly oil in a pan.
    • Add mustard seeds and let them splutter.
    • Add asafoetida, salt, and red chilli powder; stir well.
  3. Cook the mixture

    • Add the slit green chillies and chopped mango pieces.
    • Toss everything together and cook for 2–3 minutes.
  4. Finish and store

    • Remove from heat and cool completely.
    • Store refrigerated; stays good for 6–7 days.
