Mamidikaya Pulihora
A tangy, flavourful South Indian rice dish made with raw mango and aromatic tempering.
Ingredients
- 2 raw mangoes
- 4 cups cooked rice
- 1 tbsp chana dal
- 1 tbsp urad dal
- 1 tsp mustard seeds
- 2 whole red chillies
- A bunch of curry leaves
- 1 tsp turmeric
Instructions

Prepare the Mango–Rice Base
- Peel and grate or finely chop the raw mango.
- Mix the grated mango evenly into the cooked rice.

Prepare the Tempering
- Heat oil in a pan.
- Add chana dal and urad dal; fry until lightly golden.
- Add mustard seeds and let them splutter.
- Add whole red chillies, curry leaves and turmeric powder.

Combine and Finish
- Add the rice–mango mixture to the pan.
- Mix well until the rice is fully coated with the tempering.
- Add salt to taste and serve hot.
