Masala Pesarattu

Masala Pesarattu is a protein-rich green gram dosa topped with onions for a delicious Andhra-style breakfast.

Ingredients

  1. Split green gram (without skin) – 1/2 kg
  2. Green chilies – 5
  3. Coriander leaves – 2 tbsp
  4. Curry leaves – few
  5. Cumin seeds – 1 tsp
  6. Salt – to taste
  7. Onion (finely chopped) – 1
  8. Ginger (chopped) – 2 inch
  9. Vegetable oil – as needed

Instructions

  1. Soak and prepare the batter

    • Soak the split green gram for 4–5 hours
    • Drain water and add ginger, green chilies, coriander leaves, curry leaves, cumin seeds and salt
    • Grind to a coarse, not fine, paste
  2. Make the pesarattu

    • Heat a tawa/pan
    • Spread the batter like a dosa
    • Drizzle a few drops of oil over it
    • Sprinkle chopped onions on top
  3. Cook and serve

    • Cook until golden brown and crisp
    • Remove from tawa
    • Serve hot with pickle
