Lehsuni Tikki

A flavorful North Indian snack made of mashed potatoes stuffed with a garlicky, cheesy filling and deep-fried to golden perfection.

Ingredients

  • 6 medium-sized potatoes
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 4–6 garlic flakes, finely chopped
  • ¼ cup grated cottage cheese (paneer)
  • 6–8 cashew nuts, crushed
  • ¼ cup coriander leaves, finely chopped
  • ½ tbsp red chilli powder
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil for deep frying

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Potato Base

    • Wash, boil, and cool the potatoes.
    • Peel and mash them thoroughly until smooth.
    • Add salt to taste and knead the mashed potatoes into a soft, smooth dough.
    • Divide the dough into 10–12 equal portions.
  2. Prepare the Filling

    • Finely chop the onion, garlic, and coriander leaves.
    • Crush the cashew nuts.
    • In a bowl, mix the chopped onion, garlic, coriander, crushed cashews, red chilli powder, salt, and grated cottage cheese.
    • Divide this mixture into 10–12 equal portions.
  3. Shape the Tikkis

    • Flatten one portion of mashed potato on your palm.
    • Place one portion of the filling in the center and gently seal it.
    • Roll and shape into round tikkis about 2 inches in diameter and ½ inch thick.
  4. Fry the Tikkis

    • Heat oil in a kadai for deep frying.
    • Gently slide in the tikkis and fry them on medium flame until golden brown and crisp.
    • Remove and drain excess oil on a kitchen towel or absorbent paper.
  5. Serve

    • Serve hot with tomato ketchup or mint chutney for a delicious snack or starter.
