Corn and Onion Bake

Corn and Onion Bake is a comforting and savory casserole dish made with fresh corn, sliced onions, and a creamy milk mixture — topped with cheese and baked to golden perfection.

Ingredients

For the Bake:

  • 3 medium-sized onions
  • 6 large ears of fresh corn
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 1/4 tablespoon pepper powder
  • 6 cloves
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons butter or margarine
  • 1/4 cup grated cheese
  • Salt – to taste

Method

  1. Prepare the Vegetables

    • Peel and finely slice the onions.
    • Butter a baking dish or casserole and arrange the sliced onions evenly at the bottom.
    • Husk the corn and remove the kernels from the cobs using a sharp knife.
  2. Mix the Corn Filling

    • In a bowl, combine the corn kernels with flour, salt, pepper, and cloves.
    • Add the milk and mix well to form a smooth, seasoned mixture.
  3. Assemble the Dish

    • Pour the corn mixture evenly over the sliced onions in the prepared baking dish.
    • Dot the top with small pieces of butter or margarine.
    • Sprinkle grated cheese evenly over the surface.
  4. Bake

    • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
    • Place the baking dish in the oven and bake for about 50 minutes, or until the top is golden and the bake is set.
