Banana Chips
Banana Chips are crispy, golden-fried or baked slices of banana, lightly seasoned for a delicious snack. Ingredients:
- Green bananas (as many as desired)
- Oil for frying (such as vegetable oil or coconut oil)
- Salt (optional, for seasoning)
Instructions:
-
Peel the Bananas:
- Start by peeling the green bananas. It's easier to peel them when they are still green.
-
Slice the Bananas:
- Using a sharp knife or a mandoline slicer, thinly slice the bananas into uniform rounds. Try to make the slices as thin as possible for crispy chips.
-
Preheat Oil:
- Heat oil in a deep frying pan or a deep fryer over medium heat. Make sure the oil is hot but not smoking.
-
Fry the Bananas:
- Carefully add the banana slices to the hot oil in batches, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Fry the slices until they turn golden brown and crispy, stirring occasionally to ensure even frying.
-
Drain Excess Oil:
- Once the banana slices are golden brown and crispy, use a slotted spoon or a wire mesh strainer to remove them from the oil. Transfer them to a plate lined with paper towels to drain off any excess oil.
-
Season (Optional):
- If desired, sprinkle the freshly fried banana chips with a little salt while they are still hot. Toss gently to coat evenly.
-
Cool and Serve:
- Allow the banana chips to cool completely before serving. They will crisp up further as they cool.
-
Store:
- Once cooled, store the banana chips in an airtight container at room temperature. They can be enjoyed as a snack anytime.
