Onion Raita

A refreshing yogurt-based side dish with finely chopped onions, mild spices, and a simple mustard tempering.

Ingredients

  1. Curd – 1/2 kg
  2. Onions – 2 (finely chopped)
  3. Green chilly – 1 (finely chopped)
  4. Ginger – 1 (finely chopped)
  5. Coriander leaves – few (finely chopped)
  6. Oil – 1 tsp (for tadka)
  7. Mustard seeds – 1/4 tsp
  8. Salt – 1 tsp

Method

  1. **Prepare the curd base

    • Beat the curd until smooth and lump-free
    • Ensure a creamy consistency
  2. **Add vegetables and seasoning

    • Add chopped onions, green chilly, ginger, coriander leaves, and salt
    • Mix gently to combine evenly
  3. **Prepare tempering

    • Heat oil in a small ladle or spoon
    • Add mustard seeds and allow them to splutter
  4. **Finish the raita

    • Pour the hot tempering over the raita
    • Mix well so the flavors blend uniformly
  5. **Chill and serve

    • Refrigerate for 1–2 hours for best taste
    • Serve chilled with imli rice or any spicy rice dish
