Jeera Rice

Jeera Rice is a simple yet flavorful North Indian rice dish infused with the earthy aroma of cumin seeds and whole spices. It is often paired with rich curries, dals, or served with raita for a complete meal.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup basmati rice
  • 2 teaspoons cumin seeds (jeera)
  • 2 tablespoons cashew nuts
  • 3 whole peppercorns
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 3 cloves
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 2 tablespoons ghee
  • Salt to taste
  • Water, as needed

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Rice:

    • Wash the basmati rice thoroughly and soak it in water for about 30 minutes. Drain before cooking.
  2. Fry Cashew Nuts:

    • Heat ghee in a heavy-bottomed saucepan.
    • Add cashew nuts and fry until golden brown. Remove and keep aside for garnishing.
  3. Sauté Spices and Onion:

    • In the same ghee, add sliced onions, bay leaves, cloves, cinnamon sticks, cumin seeds, and peppercorns.
    • Fry until the onions turn golden and the spices release their aroma.
  4. Cook the Rice:

    • Add the soaked rice, salt, and enough water to cook. Stir well, cover with a lid, and simmer until the rice is fluffy and fully cooked.
  5. Garnish and Serve:

    • Once done, garnish the Jeera Rice with the fried cashew nuts.
    • Serve hot with spicy curry, dal, or raita of your choice.
