Kele Ki Barfi
Kele Ki Barfi is a soft, melt-in-mouth Indian sweet made from ripe bananas, milk, sugar, and coconut — a simple yet delicious dessert that blends fruitiness with rich nutty flavors.
Ingredients
- 4 large ripe bananas
- 1½ cups milk
- 2 cups sugar
- 2 tablespoons clarified butter (ghee)
- 75 g grated coconut
- ½ cup crushed walnuts
Instructions
-
Prepare the Bananas
- Peel the ripe bananas and mash them thoroughly using a fork or masher until smooth.
- Ensure there are no lumps for an even texture in the barfi.
-
Cook with Milk
- Transfer the mashed bananas into a thick-bottomed pan.
- Add milk and cook the mixture over medium heat.
- Stir occasionally to prevent sticking.
- Continue cooking until the milk is fully absorbed and the mixture thickens.
-
Add Ghee and Brown the Mixture
- Add clarified butter (ghee) to the thickened banana mixture.
- Stir continuously over medium heat.
- Cook until the mixture turns light brown and releases a pleasant aroma.
-
Incorporate Sweetness and Nuts
- Add sugar, grated coconut, and crushed walnuts to the browned mixture.
- Stir well so that the sugar dissolves and everything blends uniformly.
- Continue to cook for a few more minutes until the mixture thickens again and leaves the sides of the pan.
-
Set the Barfi
- Grease a flat plate or tray with ghee.
- Pour the hot mixture onto the plate and spread it evenly to about ½ inch thickness.
- Allow it to cool and set until firm enough to cut.
-
Cut and Serve
- Once set, cut the barfi into square or diamond-shaped pieces.
- Garnish with dry fruits for extra richness.
- Serve and enjoy this delightful banana-based sweet.
Serving Suggestion: Enjoy Kele Ki Barfi as a festive treat or after-meal dessert — its caramelized banana flavor combined with coconut and nuts makes it an irresistible sweet indulgence.
