Kele Ki Barfi

Kele Ki Barfi is a soft, melt-in-mouth Indian sweet made from ripe bananas, milk, sugar, and coconut — a simple yet delicious dessert that blends fruitiness with rich nutty flavors.

Ingredients

  1. 4 large ripe bananas
  2. 1½ cups milk
  3. 2 cups sugar
  4. 2 tablespoons clarified butter (ghee)
  5. 75 g grated coconut
  6. ½ cup crushed walnuts

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Bananas

    • Peel the ripe bananas and mash them thoroughly using a fork or masher until smooth.
    • Ensure there are no lumps for an even texture in the barfi.
  2. Cook with Milk

    • Transfer the mashed bananas into a thick-bottomed pan.
    • Add milk and cook the mixture over medium heat.
    • Stir occasionally to prevent sticking.
    • Continue cooking until the milk is fully absorbed and the mixture thickens.
  3. Add Ghee and Brown the Mixture

    • Add clarified butter (ghee) to the thickened banana mixture.
    • Stir continuously over medium heat.
    • Cook until the mixture turns light brown and releases a pleasant aroma.
  4. Incorporate Sweetness and Nuts

    • Add sugar, grated coconut, and crushed walnuts to the browned mixture.
    • Stir well so that the sugar dissolves and everything blends uniformly.
    • Continue to cook for a few more minutes until the mixture thickens again and leaves the sides of the pan.
  5. Set the Barfi

    • Grease a flat plate or tray with ghee.
    • Pour the hot mixture onto the plate and spread it evenly to about ½ inch thickness.
    • Allow it to cool and set until firm enough to cut.
  6. Cut and Serve

    • Once set, cut the barfi into square or diamond-shaped pieces.
    • Garnish with dry fruits for extra richness.
    • Serve and enjoy this delightful banana-based sweet.

Serving Suggestion: Enjoy Kele Ki Barfi as a festive treat or after-meal dessert — its caramelized banana flavor combined with coconut and nuts makes it an irresistible sweet indulgence.
