Plot

"The 10 Rillington Place" is a 1971 British crime drama film directed by Richard Fleischer, based on the real-life case of serial killer John Christie.

The movie follows the story of Timothy Evans, a young man wrongly accused and convicted of murdering his wife and child, and later executed, while the real culprit, Christie, continued to live and kill in the same house. The story is set in the late 1940s in the Rillington Place neighborhood of Notting Hill, London. Timothy Evans and his wife Beryl move into a rented apartment in Rillington Place, next door to John Christie and his wife Ethel. Christie is a former police officer who presents himself as a helpful neighbor, but he is actually a cold-blooded killer who lures women to his flat and murders them. Evans becomes suspicious of Christie's behavior and accuses him of killing his wife and child, but the police don't believe him and instead accuse Evans of the crime.

Evans is coerced into confessing to the murder of his daughter, and he is later convicted and hanged. Christie continues to kill women, and the bodies are eventually discovered in his house. Christie is arrested and convicted of multiple murders, and he is also hanged. The case leads to a public outcry and reforms in the British criminal justice system, including the abolition of the death penalty for murder. The movie is based on the book "Ten Rillington Place" by Ludovic Kennedy, which helped to expose the miscarriage of justice in Evans' case. The movie is known for its bleak and realistic portrayal of the case, and for the outstanding performances of Richard Attenborough as John Christie and John Hurt as Timothy Evans.
